Yesterday was one of those days that your glad it happened but you wouldn’t be upset if it didn’t.
It was hot, very very hot. For some reason I like it really hot, especially when you don’t have to do anything and you just sit around all day except when you walk up to the shop to buy a icy cold 600ml coke. Yesterday wasn’t like that because I had to make a video of the daytrip, edit it and show it in the evening program.
We met and jacks at 7:30 in the morning to brief the day then we headed out to bents basin, near waragamba dam, west of Penrith. People registered and ice breaker games where played, morning tea was had, ice breaker games where played, lunch was had then the rotational activities began. Only they didn’t go as according to plan as one would have hoped for. Kaia (who was the photographer) and I drove between the activities trying to find decent footage and photo ops. As I had to leave at 2:30 to go and edit it all together. We rushed between activites but it was very hard to get good stuff because of the extreme heat, and some of the activities had gone to the dogs with groups a bit bewildered as to what they where supposed to be doing and where they were supposed to be doing it. So I ended up with 21 minutes of footage. At 3 I left for the church, at quarter to 4 I arrived at the church and began to edit. It was coming together, not the best but it was the best under the circumstances, but then the laptop overheated causing a few problems I turned it all off and put the lap top upside down for 20 minutes then returned to editing, it was getting later and later and closer and closer to showing time. I finished the bodgy video and went and plugged it all into the projector and sound stuff. Then waited to play it.
Polly got everyone to cheer me before the video had even bee played, I didn’t enjoy that, infact I was very close to sinking down behind the chair that was in front of me and just hiding until everyone was facing the screen. I played the video, it was crap, there where bits I had forgotten to take the sound off, there where bits that went too long and some too short and some that just shouldn’t have been there…. I did hide behind the chair during the video so at the end I stayed behind the chair.
Getting on the bus at the end of the day was a nice feeling, jen and I chatted on the way home and I was able to forget about the video, I think next time will be better, this was also my very first daytrip so that made my task harder.
I cant bring myself to watch it again yet, maybe in a few days.
I think the young people had a good time, and the food was good, it was just my side of things that wasnt the bestest
