Howie on Harry
June 30, 2004 5:05 pm FeelingsIts time I came out of the closet.
Not that closet, you silly people!
My Harry Potter Closet. Why it is that howie doesn’t like Harry potter? Why is it that Howie won’t read the books or watch any of the movies?
People often say to me “why don’t you like Harry potter” And normally I answer with some sort of vibey uncommitted comment like “I just don’t like it” I’m anti potter”
Well the real reasons, is that I really don’t like fantasy stories, wizards and dark lords and spells and witches and all that. It really gives me the creeps. Its not that I’m scared I think its more that its just not something I enjoy. I would even go as far as saying I think all that stuff is evil. I think it’s a bit different for other people, its not a “I’m Christian and I know that harry potter is evil” It more that I just personally cant stand fantasy especially if it has spells and witches and wizards and stuff like that. I know plenty of Christians who love Harry Potter. I’m not quite sure on their stance with all this wizardry stuff. For me it’s a no no.
Lots of people say it just a story. And sure it is just a story, but from this story lots of dodgy stuff has happened. Like in department stores across Australia after the release of harry potter there was witches and stuff in the childrens sections, with kids being able to make spells and read tarots and stuff. Not good in my opinion.
I really don’t like that sort of stuff. I even struggled with the Lord of The rings. I watched the first one but that’s all I saw and I didn’t like it.
Sorry everyone but its really not my scene, I and I wish it wasn’t yours either but you can watch and read what ever you want.
I’m not going to hate you if you like harry potter.

I completely agree with you on that one Howie, never seen harry poter movies or read the books, never will. Witchcraft and the new age is the fastest growing religion in Australia. And where does harry get all his powers from? It ain’t God.

I like Harry. I think he’s great. Good stories.
Harry Potter’s fiction and I encourage people to leave him there. If we don’t read or watch Harry Potter on the basis of the actions of the main character being involved in witchcraft, then we have a lot more work to do with violent movies. I would say that they have a much larger detrimental effect on our society.

Yeah but to me witchcraft is a higher level than voilennce, sure sin is sin and bad is bad, so why not stop it all. but you have to take a stance somewhere, and for me witchcraft weather its fiction or not still gives me the heebie geebies and i dont think it should be glamourised into this fun medium so that kids love it and enjoy it and think its ok.

witch craft and wizzardry are the fastest growing religion in Australia!! Doesn’t this say something? All violent movies are bad. I don’t watch many movies because I beleive they totally contradict the moral standards in the bible. To say “It doesn’t affect me” is not true. We happily accept murder, killing, violence, drug, sex thrown in our faces, but because its a movie we use the excuse its not real. Why do we entertain ourselves with things displeases the heart of God? Movies influence society bigtime. Because of movies, teengaers now think oral sex is part of making out. We laugh at people being killed. seriously…When kids start dabbling in the occult, it can lead into dangerous things.
