daddy daddy daycare

my two pennies worth on educating toddlers about same sex parents
last night at commy dinner we discussed the recent implementation of educating kiddies in some day care centres about same sex parents and that some kiddies have same sex parents. Lots of people had very different opinions on the issue some saying they they strongly disagree with it other thinking it was helpful, others indifferent. Well last night i shared the following and i thought it would blog it too.

The beautiful thing about kiddies aged 0 – 4 is that they dont really judge anyone else. All they want to do is play, feel loved and explore.
When i was in Albania last year as part of a team running some festivals in the city of Korce, there was one night that over at the little mini jumping castle there were 2 little girls jumping.
One of the girls was the mayors daughter, the other was a gypsy girl. In Albania the gypsy peope are seen as inferior, they dont have permanent homes and jobs, they travel around in large groups. but these two girls were jumping happily together not a care in the world, just enjoying jumping together and laughing.
I am pretty sure that little kiddies in a day care centre are not going to notice if larry has two mummy’s instead of a mummy and a daddy. but if they where to notice i dont think it would affect the kiddies in any way, they wouldnt think twice about it.
However i think it would affect larry. If larry is playing happily in the sand pit and the teacher comes out and reads all the kiddies a story and in the story it talks about a little boy and his family. the teacher reads about how this little boy after a big day playing goes home to his mummy and daddy. well then larry may wonder why he doesnt go home to a mummy and daddy but rather he goes home to a mummy and a mummy. So he may be affected, but if the teacher reads a story about different kiddies going home to different sorts of families then it wont seem abnormal to larry and he wont feel like he is different to the other kiddies.
So in a daycare setting i think the only people who will benefit from knowing that some families are different and just becasue you may have 2 mummies is ok becase some kiddies only have a mum and no dad or some families have 2 daddys or some families have 2 daddy and 2 mummys.
I think the other kids wont even notice that things are different for someone else, and even if they do notice a difference they wont judge or think anything of it.
BUT
once kids hit primary school its a whole new ball game.
In primary school kids do begin to notice things about their peers and if something is different from themselves then the other person has something wrong or the kid sees themself as having something wrong. In this instance if larry goes on to primary school and his good friend ben notices one day that larry has two mums instead of a mum and a dad like himself he will probably see larry as being different, this is when things like teasing, segregation and all that could kick in. So in primary school educating kids taht some families are different will be helpful for the other kids who dont for example have same sex parents. In primary school it will help kids to be aware of differences and except differences. I dont think its eveil to tell kids that some people have same sex parents, its not going to make young kids question their own sexuality and make them come to the conclusion that maybe they are gay. Its just helping them to be more accepting of their community and surroundings. But it shouldnt just be a focus on same sex parents, but also broken homes, people from different cultures, religions etc.

so there is my input.

tediousness

I still cant upload images to my blog :(

infact i cant add or delete anything in any of my folders, it seems i dont have authority to acccess my own files.

hopefuly smartyhost is getting to the bottom of it for me.

good old lappy he is so smart and its so much easier to join networks and stuff on a mac.

silly howie

Its 9:05pm on a friday night and i’m alone in the office working away on making a video for tomorrow afternoon.

the anoying thing is that the video footage i wanted to edit, well its dead, it was recoreded on what seems to be a dodgy DV tape so i have to make the whole video using photo images. the upside is that i have about 800 photos to choose fomr to make a 4 – 5min video.

operation violation

Over 5 hours where spent at the hospital today for a 10 minute procedure.
Today was my cystoscopy, the final test to see if there was anything wrong inside my bladder. I have to say reading about the procedure on the internet didn’t excite me and I wasn’t really looking forward to today.
I wont go in to nitty gritty on the blog, but lets just say that all I had was a bit of local anaesthetic in the form of gel not a needle. And that the camera itself seemed much larger than I had expected.
I tell you what I would hate to know what it feels like not to have the gel because it hurt quite a lot. And right now its not all hunky dorey either still in quite a lot of pain.
My goodness me I was violated. There where about 5 people in the operating room all female and all looking at my bits laying there out for everyone to see..

oh and the results i got straight away, bladder seems all fine so it was just some freak infection.

mmmm chippies

Last night at commy dinner we had nachos.

But one of the packets of Doritos was all stale and gross, but it was a brand new packet. So I called smiths chips to tell them. They are now going to post me some Doritos.

I hope they don’t get broken in the post or I’ll have to call up and get them to send me some more.

done and done

Las Vegas series 1 now complete.

tonight i shall begin series 2

cityrail and dogging the code

On Friday night I was sitting on Hornsby station waiting for a train that would take me to Rhodes where I was gonna hang out with joshy.

Then over the PA system an angry sounding man said “baring yourself on the platform is not permitted”

Quite an odd message to hear on a station, maybe there was some nudie person up the other end of the station waiting for a train.

After josh and I had finished hanging out I went back to Rhodes station to get a train home. It was a bit after 11pm. I sat there a no train came, I sat there a bit longer and no train came. There was supposed to be one at 11:48pm but it didn’t come and at about 12:30 I decided to call 131 500 and I got a recorded message saying that someone had been hit by a train at epping so all trains on the northern line where not running. I figured there would be trains eventually so I waited more. I walked to try and find a night ride bus stop but couldn’t find one. So I walked over to Ryde road to see if I could get a normal bus to some other train station. But the only bus I could find was one that went to top ryde and I had missed the last one of them.
So back to the station for more sitting.
Eventually a train did come at about 1:20 and I got home at 2am.

And that was my Friday night adventures.

Saturday was a work thing all day so not the most exciting day ever. But Saturday night was fun, sam myself , jenny and Debbie all went out to the SCG for the swans game. Sam and I had very sore throats by the end casue we shouted so much, I think jenny and debbie were embarrassed..

Sunday was picnic day jenny and I went to apple tree bay.
Sunday night we dogged church.

I’m not a big fan of the church getting so hyped up about The Da Vinci code and how people need to know the truth. ITS FICTION!!!!
Seriously you would have to be pretty doughy to think that it was all truth, seeing as the book was only written a few years ago. Anyway that’s why I dogged church last night casue it was “decoding da vinci”.
Bah just let people read the book and enjoy the story.

Vegas Baby!

I have become addicted to the tv show ‘Las Vegas’ all about a casino and its security room and stuff. It’s really cool.

Tom and i hired disc one of series 1 a week or so ago. since then i have hired disc 2,3 and accidently 6.
so 2 discs to go then i’ve finished series one, and the best thing is that just 2 dasy ago at video ezy series 1 and 2 went from 3 day hire to weekly.

home again

Armidale was good. On Sunday arvo after I arrived in armidale my dad picked me up from the airport and we went to Uralla with my mum and Nan for lunch
That was nice, I really like my Nan.
After lunch we went for a drive to some little chapel thing in the middle of nowhere then back to armidale on a dirt road.
Yesterday I went down to the shop, mum and I went and sat in a café for a bit which was nice and we also looked at shops.
At about 2pm my mum went off to the bank, and i stayed in the shop with my dad. My flight home was at 2:40pm so I had to leave soon. We waited for mum to come back but at 2:20 we decided we just had to go otherwise I would miss the plane. Got to the airport at 2:35pm. I jumped out of the car and ran to the check in counter, I ws very apologetic for being late to the check in lady but she then told me that the pane was at least 30mins late.
Oh the relief!

In the end the plane was about 40mins late.

leaving on a jet plane

oh how i love the airport, and just airports in general really.

i love flying and the little REX plains to armidale are a lot of turbulant fun.

time for some krispy creme

comedy, long days and a express trip nowhere special

Tom and I saw Lano and Woodley on thursday night. It was the preview of their goobye tour and it was fantastic. i laughed a lot very clever, funny, innovatine boys. If only i was as funny as them. I would like to be a confident performer but really i can only be funny and performer like when i’m in a group of people i know really well and feel comfortable with.

anyway tom and i had a great night out, eating thai and drinking coke.

today was a big day at work, i’m quite tired.

tomorrow is mothers day, i’m flying up to Armidale for the night then flying back to sydney on monday. nice little armidale visit, they way they should be!

i’m not sure if its even worth trying to blog at the moment most posts sem to dissapear off the planet.

not happy

I’m really not happy with smartyhost.
I pay quite a lot for my hosting and their service is pretty crap. my emails arnt working, my site is the slowest it has ever been. Its not publishing posts properly, i lost pics and some data. the new interface is confusing and not user firendly especially with the logins which are all strange numbers that i cant change. The ftp login is really slow.
i’m not updating on blogfeed. comments are not coming through from people who say they have written them.

grrrrrr

dogs and legends

I have been such a bag blogger lately.
And today is not a day i really feel like blogging either. It seems that smartyhost in all their wisdom have broken my blog and i have lost a lot of images and other stuff. They sent me an email on monday saying that they were upgrading their hosting service and that they where going to change me over to the optus datacentre place which would mean i get a faster and better service that is more reliable. My site is supposed to load 10 times faster and have increased security.
So because of the changes they made i had to spend the morning updating all my email accounts because they now all have new usernames and passwords and same for my ftp logins and admin logins.
My blog was down all morning so i contacted smartyhost and told them my site was down. a few hours later they got back to me and said it was all fixed now. but its not, its gone crazy, it seems to be some sort of backup of my blog that they have put up. so it doesn’t have any of the stuff that i have done in the last week or so, like the new banner, new headlines or even a post i made today didn’t appear.

DOGS!

In other news i was following the Beaconsfiled mining story really closely. I found myself reading about it every opportunity i had on the web, i watched news reports on all different networks thourghout the last week. I even had a web-cam image on my desktop for the last few days that refreshed every 15 second. it was a shot of the front of the mine from the little media village.
I was really happy when they got out and went and clocked off. It was just a real feel good story and yay for then tasmanian miners who got them out. and yeah it is sad that one of them died but how cool is it that 2 blokes stuck in a little cage 1km underground for 2 weeks got out alive.

dogs!

i think my blog is broken.

the hosting company made lots of changes this morning and i had to update lots of logins and passwords and stuff. and they broke my blog database.

its sort of fixed now but lots of images seem to have dissapeared.
