On Sunday I’m off to central Australia on a 13 day coach trip. Its for work we do it every year take a bunch of young people on a pretty amazing journey.
anyway i’m not here to bore you with the details of the trip, I’m here to bore you with the details of internet connection whilst on the road.
We are travelling by coach and each night it is my task to send an email with some photos attached to a colleague at Yulara.
at present my phone plan has GPRS capabilities but its 2.2 cents per kilobyte which works about to be about $20 per email if i attach 2 photos and send a reasonable amount of text from my laptop through my phone. So i went to my phone company today and asked if i could get a better data trasfer deal on my plan or an add on package or somethng, well they dont do any good data services and they told me to try a different company.
I’m half way thorugh my contract so i cant just drop everything and start up with a new company just so for the next 2 weeks i can send emails at a cheaper rate.
Anyway after visiting 5 differnet phone shops in westfield, a dude at vodafone hooked me up with a vodafone simcard that i can use to connect to GPRS for heaps cheap and i’m not locked ninto any contract, I can use it for the nesxt month then ring up and cancel it and there is no dissconection fee, best of all its $29.95 for 100mb . oh yeah!
Now all i have to do is sit back, relax and wait for prawn to tell me that there is something better i could have done.
