Hi Howie, I am a fellow Coffs tourist at the moment too… not so impressive today huh… it’s a shame you missed the good weather last week… radio tells me that it’s safe to still swim at diggers beach as long as you only go in up to your waist! Hmmm… super safe!
You can check out the Coffs Harbour Butterfly House on Strouds Rd, just off the Pacific Highway at the Strouds Rd and Lyons Rd exit. It’s small but interesting - lots of native butterflies fluttering about in a subtropical rainforest setting. They are closed on Mondays, except in school and public holidays and open from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Tel: (02) 6653 4766.
There is also Storyland Gardens - apparently a major tourist attraction on Lyons Rd (the southerly road into Sawtell from the Pacific Highway). Designed for the entertainment of children it features sculptures of famous characters from children’s stories - Snow White, the Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood etc - all within their own storyland settings. The whole is contained within a forested area. The owners actually live in a large shoe (as in the Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe) which has a kiosk in the toe. Tel: (02) 6653 1400. They are open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Thursday to Sunday except in the NSW school holidays when they are open every day. I didn’t go there, but it would be worth it to check out the Boot House and soak up the tackyness.
Failing either of those, go to Sawtell cinemas which have been there since the 1930s (call 02 66533119 for session times or go to: www firstavecinema com au), or any number of cafes on First Ave or the pub on the corner which is quite good.

You could always go back to Sydney and come to my party.
