fair trade gone wrong
April 28th, 2011 | general chit chat
I just sold a block of Cadbury fair trade chocolate to my wife for $10.
We got given two blocks each at Easter from her family but apparently that’s not enough.
$10 is a bit much I hear you say, as those blocks are normally around $3 in the supermarket. Well I had some factors to include into the exclusive pricing.
- convenience, as my block is in the kitchen cupboard you can’t get more convenient than that, no need to walk all the way to the shops. So you pay a premium.
- sentimental value, the chocolate was a gift to me, so to part with it I will need some significant financial compensation.
- If I left it in the cupboard much longer she would have eaten it anyway which would have been theft resulting in criminal charges, this way she gets let off with a fine in full knowledge that we all knew she was planning on committing an offense.

The above comment from my wife has been censored by the blog management as it as intentionally set out to undermine the overly humorous post with facts

Wow. And what are your plans with the $10?

Rollo says:
If you had asked to borrow $10 for something, I’m reasonably sure that she’d have given you the money anyway.
Likewise, if she’d asked you for a block of chocolate because that’s not an unreasonable request, you probably would have gifted it.
It is all very nice and proper, but does it make sense to think that you are $10 to the good on the transaction?
Mr Lewis’ book has been inside my head again… dah!

Dear The Howie Management
I apologise for my continual use of facts on your posts which get in the way of a good story.
But too bad. I shall try again.

~ The RRP is $4.90 or something like that. I don’t buy it unless it’s $2.50.
~ I wouldn’t have eaten it because it was yours. And I had said I wouldn’t. This time.
~ When you first said I could buy it, the amount I had in my head was $10. And so, as that was what you said, it was meant to be.
~ You already had $10 in your pocket from my wallet, and said that would cover it. I was expecting you to keep it anyway, so really, I didn’t lose out.
So thank you husband for your generosity.

In our household we have moved away from our previous chocolate management system (me hiding chocolate around the house away from the wife who has little self-control) to a new system (I have a ‘man-draw’ which contains chocolate and alcohol, and from which the wife is banned. I dispense rations on a controlled basis).
So far so good.

imagine combing the man drawer with small fees for rations…

Out in the Western Suburbs we don’t have to restrict ourselves to a mere “man drawer”, no! We have a small house like structure called… a shed.
