[Live] from the road recipes
the longest wooden jetty in the sothern heimisphere
well since i last blogged jenny and i have left perth in our little hire car that we have called’cindy’
cindy is some little ice cream container on wheels, i cant remember what flavour it is, maybe dihatsu?
anywe its brand new when we picked it up it only had 26km under its belt.
we travled 222km south of perth to pepermint grove beach which is our home town until saturday morning, we have a cool house that looks out over the water, we cant quite see africa but we are sure its out there.
still sick, lots of coughing and jenny has it now too, so we are both snot heads although here voice doesnt sound like barry white.
today we are in busselton it has a mega long wooden jetty, infact is 1.8km long and we walked it. it has a train, but the train is not running, it also has an underwater viewing place at the end but it was closed due to bad visibility underwater.
bussleton is a bit like perth in thee way that it was founded by a momentous occasion and ceremony, perth the chopped down tree well busselton was founded by the first settlers in 1836, they put a wodden barrel on a 30 foot pole.
still fun though, i just had the biggest hamburger in the world, ok maybe not the biggest its no way near as big as perths ginat kebab but it was still big.
giant kebab and a chopped down tree
Jenny and i jst went for a walk from our hotel in search of some dinner and just to wander a bit.
the person at the airport was right perth is pretty dead on a sunday night.
however we did stumble across a few little gems.
There is a statue in a park near our hotel, and i’m sure its not a giant kebab but from a distance and in the dull evening light it looks like a big skewer with bits of meaton it. (for the vegie readers it could also look like bits of tofu, cucumber etc)
so thats fun a giant kebab in the middle of the city. We also ran int ken bruce in maccas, i enjoy running into people i know in strange cities.
the other thing i found amusing is we walked past the place where perth was officialy founded. it was a plaque on the ground that said
THIS CITY WAS FOUNDED ON THE 12TH AUGUST 1829 BY THE FELLING OF A TREE NEAR THIS SPOT
what a way to found a city, oh i think i might start a city, what is something momentous i could do, i know i;ll knock down a tree then declare this spot a city. we shall call it perth and it shall be home to the worlds largest kebab.
perth – a city of people
we are here in perth,
as we drove from the airport in the little shuttlebusi spotted a big sign that said “Perth – A city of people”
profound!
leaving on a jet plane
oh how i love the airport, and just airports in general really.
i love flying and the little REX plains to armidale are a lot of turbulant fun.
time for some krispy creme
its hot today!
Arrived at yulara on thursday arvo, its a fun little resort village i like Yulara. And tomorrow we are getting up at 4am. thats right 4am. Why did i say yes to coming????
nah having a good time, i do like coming out to Uluru its a pretty damn azaming place. but there is way too many flies.
red dust fun
marla is the town and absolutely nothing is their game.
trip going well, we reach uluru later this afternoon.
thats all.
the hottest spot in the country
Well jenny and i arrived in Armidale at about 8:30 last night. It took us 7hrs to get here with quite a few stops along the way.
We are up here because its my nan’s 90th birthday, she is old.
and again we are using the wonderful services of the mvdonalds wireless hotspot.
I’ve been to cities that never close down
I did the map thing too, that everyone seems to be doing today.

I included countires where i didnt leave the airport. Becasue if i didnt include them it looked really dull.

2 down 1 to go
Here we are in singapore on our express trip home. less than 1 hour in bahrain and less than 1 hour in singapore.
As we went through security at athens airport there was a man in front of me that got pulled up at the bag x-ray machine. THey opened his case and out of it came about 200 lighters, all with a marijuana leaf picture on them. I think he may have got in trouble.
our flight from athens to bahrain was not on a gulf air plane it was a ‘jet airways’ plane some indian company, it was a posh plane it had an on demand touch screen entertainment system in every seat. It was col youcould choose from a list of stuff to watch and stop and startr it whenever you wanted. so that was fun.
then on the last flight therewas a group of men a few rows in front who where flirting with the hosteses and other passengers. anyway one of them kept going into the toilet and then he would reapear and the cabin would be left with the smell of ciggarette smoke. None of the crew seemedto catch on so much for smoke alarms on gulf air planes.
The only thing that happened was a crew man walked past once sniffing and said “i smell smoke” and that was the end of that. maybe smoke on gulf air planes is common.
8 hours to go and i’ll be back in sydney, plane travel is fun but long flights when you cant sleep suck.
singapore eh!
here we are in singapore its 4:35 am local time. And again i’m praising the invention of free airport internet.
Our flight was pretty good. I managed to find two seats by them selves so i stretched out and had a nap.
still damn tired thought casue it was a pretty patchy sleep.
boarding…
I left my blog open on the last computer. I left it open on the post about the gulf air crash, hopefuly i’m not now a terror suspect.
this is it. peace out dogs
extrodition
here we are at the airport. I love free airport internet.
about to go through the customs stuff.
I like flying . i just gave up my window seat so we can sit together.
the things i do for ladies.
kid of ruins the whole experience if you dont have a window or are close to a window cause you miss the two most excting parts of air travel. buti’ll be ok i have tissues.
anyway i might blog again if i get the chance but for now bon voyage my friends and foes.
hopefuly i’ll post a few times whilst in Greece.
leaving on a jet plane
Well what a fun little early week getaway.
Yesterday jenny and I flew up to Armidale to see my parents before we head over to Greece at the end of the week. We had quite a lot of turbulence in the little plane yesterday, I found if fun but I think jenny was a bit freaked but there I was by her side yet again.
It was good to see parents again, I like my mum and dad. We where silly and rude to each other like we always are its fun. Lots of little jokes. My mum is a what I like to call “recovering hippie” so there where lots of chats about my diet and what I should eat and everything should be brown.
My nan is awesome we spent some time with her in the nursing home today lots and lots of laughs.
And I got my birthday present early. I now own a 5.0 Mega Pixel Digital SLR Camera. Very posh indeedy.
And that my friends is that.
the wonderful land of two-headed people
well, here we are in tasmania.
good to see joshy and other random buddies.
so, looking forward to coming home am i?
Last ngiht
Well here we are on our last night in Armidale.
been a pleasent experience.
lets see last ngiht i stepped in what smells like human vommit. And yes i was bare foot.
actually thats probably the only dodgy thign thats happened.
A few dvd’s watched, some new clothes (thanks mother) a trip to koorong.
Today jenny and i Hung out with my nan for a bit. That was fun she said jenny “looked nice:” and in reference to me and jenny she said “you’re a good picker”. Good old nan. We took her to Maccas, her favourite place, sat around eating happy meals then wheeled her back to the parents house.
this afternoon jenny and i ventured out to the Armidale Dam, damn exciting place, it had some grass and some water. We played frisbee and ate biscuits and rolls.
tomorrow we are leaving early and gonna travel across to the coast and back down that way.
Armidale
“Bearable one day, best to leave the next”
Armidale
Well here we are in down town Armidale.
And oh wat a amazing town it is.
We left hornsby at around 11:15am yesterday and arrived here at about 6:15pm. We stopped for lunch in singleton and then again for a break in tamworth.
we listened to:
John Mayer – Room for Squares
The Lads – Live
Jewel – Pieces of you
Barenaked ladies – best of
Diesel – Singled out
Jamie Cullum – Twenty something
After we arrived we found ourselves walking around the street to some old ladies house. We where all led into her garage where she bombarded my mother with bread, telling her to take as much as she wanted.
The armidale underworld is alive and kicking. THey dont deal in arms and drugs and hi fi equitment. Up here they are on the hard stuff. Bread. Little old ladies across the new england some how aquiring bread that has just “fallen off the back of a truck”, then pasing it out to their fellow grandma gangsters.
Welcome to the Armidale hood.
today we need something to do.
Our Holi-one-day
5:30am

Our plane and me

on the plane

Us on the Coolangatta beach holding our cheap 600ml buddies

Oh what a pretty beach it is

The cinema, it was a dodgy cinema, uncomfortable seats and stuff..but all added to the experience

And now waiting for the train on the way home.

tom has more photos on his blog
Across the border and back
Well here we are!
Down town Coolangatta. Thats right tom and i are sitting in an internet cafe in coolangatta on the lovely Gold Coast of Australia.
What a way to spend a day off. We flew up here this morning, just saw Hitch Hickers guide to the Galaxay.
Which was a good entertaining film, I dont know how it compares to the book because i dont really read books. But it was fun. Marvin the depressed robot was my favourite. It wanst an amazing film but worth a watch i give it. 5/7
anyway we have to leave soon and head back to the gold coast Airport for our flight home.
I reccomend a quick trip interstate for a few hours, especially queensland becasue the coke is cheap the films are cheap and thats all you need really.
how did all this frivolity come about?
Well tom and i both had days off so last night we brainstormed what we could do together today and an interstate flight came up. So on the net we went finding cheap fares.
So cheap the train fare to the airport was more expensive thatn the flight to the Gold coast.
anyway so much fun and frivolity.
this is me on the train at 5 something this morning

tom on the train
and this is me at Coolengatta Airport at 8:45 this morning

me blogging right now

The flies in central Australia are anoying. Not like in sydney where they are all domesticated and stuff, you know you can walk down the street with flies on a leash. You can have pet flies in your house. but out here in the desert its all dodgy fliues, wild, aggressive and untamed flies.
They have a habit of flying in your ears, mouth, nose (but only my left nostral).
ummm thats all
welcome to the middle of nowhere
Well here we are on day 3 of our trip out to uluru.
We sure are in the middle of nowhere, you can tell when you are in a rural area when the internet is dialup and the grouynd is brown.
dont reallty have much to say.
Oh jenny is wearing a “howie’s halfpipe” syhirt. thats fun. Free advertising.
